Malterer Farms is a family operation in the heart of south-central Minnesota — raising corn, soybeans, and beef cattle, and selling farm-raised beef by the quarter, half, or whole animal.
The best farms aren't built alone.
Malterer Farms is a family farm in Janesville, Minnesota, raising corn, soybeans, and beef cattle on land our family has worked since 1905. The farmhouse built in 1887 still stands on the home place, a certified Minnesota Century Farm — a daily reminder that we farm for the long haul. Today the farm is owned and operated by Tim and Abby Malterer.
What sets our operation apart is how we've chosen to grow: through partnership. With the Oak and Quiram families, we co-own New Horizon Seeds, LLC, a Pioneer Seed agency serving growers across southern Minnesota. With the Melchert family, we share a full line of equipment used to better serve the acres they farm and the acres Malterer Farms farms. The shared partnership lets us spread our equipment more efficiently across more acres and gives us a larger geographic footprint — and because weather and ground conditions are rarely the same across our whole territory, it gives us the flexibility to keep running when conditions turn adverse in one place. These partnerships bring better technology, deeper expertise, and lower costs to every acre we touch. Today our acres span Le Sueur, Rice, Steele, Waseca, and Blue Earth counties.
Malterer Farms is led by Tim Malterer, a North Dakota State University graduate and alumnus of Texas A&M's Executive Program for Agricultural Producers (TEPAP) — two stops in a habit of continued learning built through many courses and programs over the years. Our goal is simple: leave the land, the businesses, and the community stronger than we found them. It's the promise behind the words on our logo — Let's Grow Together.
Corn and soybean production is the core of the operation — planting, in-season management, harvest, and grain marketing through regional elevators and processors.
We raise beef cattle on the farm and sell farm-raised beef direct to families by the quarter, half, or whole animal — see below for details.
We sell beef raised right here on the farm, direct to your freezer — finishing around 30 head of cattle each year. Beef is available by the quarter, half, or whole animal, processed to your specifications at a local locker — you choose the cuts, thickness, and packaging that fit your family.
Buying in bulk is the best value on farm-raised beef, and you know exactly where it came from and how it was raised. Customers come from across south-central Minnesota, including Mankato, Waseca, Owatonna, Faribault, and the surrounding area.
